WCAR Audit

The Waste Facility Environmental Review Process (WFER) is a method of ascertaining information on waste facilities and transporters that may be used by each waste generator as the basis for their risk assessment and eventual use of a waste facility or transporter. The development of the Waste Facility Environmental Review Process has been sponsored by the Western Canadian Auditing Roundtable (WCAR). WCAR is composed of internal Health, Safety and Environmental Auditors from major Western Canadian companies" Their web site is www.wcar.org

Swan Hills Treatment Centre Presented with Alberta's Certificate of Recognition

The  Swan Hills Treatment Center, has received a Certificate of Recognition (COR) from the Alberta Human Resources and Employment department for its health and safety program.

The facility received a 96 percent score on the external maintenance audit of its health and safety program. The audit examined eight elements including management leadership/organizational commitment; hazard identification and assessment; hazard control; ongoing inspections; qualifications, orientation, and training; emergency response; accident/incident investigation; and program administration. Top scores for the facility included a perfect score for program administration, 99 percent on both management leadership/organizational commitment and emergency response, and a 98 percent on accident/incident investigation. As a result of the audit, the project team is developing a written policy for inspections to further improve safety at the site.

The COR is issued by the Alberta Human Resources and Employment in conjunction with Alberta Certified Partners, Alberta Association for Safety Partnerships, to recognize organizations committed to improving health and safety for Alberta workers. The certification is valid for three years.
